All that hiccupping may have driven her over the edge
A 19-year-old woman who gained national fame in 2007 because she couldn't stop hiccuping for five weeks has been charged with murder, in what police are calling a botched robbery.
Jennifer Mee, who appeared on NBC's "Today" several times in 2007 after she started hiccupping about 50 times a minute and couldn't stop, has been charged along with two others with first-degree murder in St. Petersburg, Fla.
NYDaily News reports St. Petersburg police as saying Mee, Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22, lured their victim, Shannon A. Griffin, to a home and robbed him at gunpoint, The Associated Press Reported.
Griffin was shot and killed during a struggle, police said. He was found with "several gunshot wounds to his upper body," NBC reported.
Sgt. T. A. Skinner of the St. Petersburg Police Department told the AP that the three confessed.
Mee, Raiford and Newton could face the death penalty, according to Florida law.
During her appearance on "Today," Mee, who was 15, complained at the time that her hiccups forced her to miss school and caused her so much agony that she often burst into tears.
